Waterlogged Blurb
After nineteen years as a conservation warden on some of the busiest lakes in Southern Wisconsin, Jordan Pearce is ready for a change of pace in the quiet of the Northwoods on the same lake she used to vacation on with her family. Her wish is granted when a colleague quits without notice. Everything seems to be falling into place.
Hanna Quinn returns to the Northwoods to help care for her aunt Dottie after a cancer diagnosis. Both her aunts have been her saving grace and now it’s her turn to be their strength. There’s plenty to keep her busy, and the new conservation warden is a welcome distraction from her overflowing plate.
Odd occurrences put the community on edge, and the serenity of the Northwoods is rocked when a body is discovered floating in the flowage. Jordan pushes the limits of her authority to keep Hanna and her new town safe, but the truth isn’t always as it seems.
More about Nance
Q. What publisher are you with?
A. Bold Strokes Books
Q. What Genres do you write?
A. Romance, Mystery/Suspense/Thriller
Q. What made you join the sapphic lit pop up bookstore?
A. I was so excited to join the Sapphic Lit Pop-up bookstore because of the incredible authors and readers associated with this group. I have had so much fun getting to know this group.
Q. What was your first pop-up event?
A. Rehoboth Beach Women’s Fest in 2024 – Prior to this event, I’d done a bunch of live readings with no issues, but being there, with so many authors I’d admired for years, I read so fast that I’m surprised anyone heard a word I said!
Q. What made you start writing?
A. I can’t remember a time when my imagination wasn’t running wild with stories, so writing was the only natural outlet! I wrote my first novel after college, followed by about four more, but didn’t submit any of my work until 2019. That very first novel, written so long ago, was picked up by Bold Strokes Books and is my debut novel, Cowgirl. The rest, is history!
Q. Do you use the same creative process for every book?
A. I do have a rhythm for all my books. Typically, the characters and the setting hit first, then, I have to figure out the genre to go with my MC’s in their perfect world. Eventually, it all comes together, especially once I get to know them and develop the epic playlist that keeps me motivated!
Q. What is your latest book? How did you get the idea? When does it come out?
A. My latest is Waterlogged, A Northwoods Mystery. The setting came to me first. I found the Turtle Flambeau Flowage, located in the northeastern corner of Wisconsin, and it begged for a good murder mystery. Hanna and Jorden were the perfect main characters to give depth and perspective to the story. The characters in Waterdance added many more layers. It was a blast to write. It came out in December of 2024.
Q. Describe where you do most of you writing?
A. I write in our home office or on the patio. I love the office for the extra monitor, but the patio wins out on a warm, sunny day!
Q. Do you have a newsletter?
A. I tried to do a newsletter, but I couldn’t think of what to write, so I decided to save my readers from the agony of me making stuff up!
Q. What do you wish more readers knew about you?
A. I saw a meme recently that said something to the effect of authors spend a year and a half writing a novel and reader’s devour it in a few hours like a caffeinated raccoon. Yeah, it’s like that. Writing is a labor of love. It takes time, tugs on our heart stings, and the characters often lead of off on unneeded tangents! Eventually, we rein it all in and a book comes to life. I hope readers know how much blood, sweat, and tears go into each and every book.
Q. Who is your favorite sapphic icon (literary or not)?
A. There are too many to list, but Katherine V. Forrest opened up this genre to me so many years ago and she deserves a strong shout out!
Q. You’re in charge of hosting brunch for a dozen people, what is on the menu? (Money is no object, so you can have it catered if you’d like)?
A. Ohhhhh, I’m a foodie so this will be fun. I spent more than twenty years in Arizona and love authentic Mexican food. Fresh tortillas, salsa, enchiladas, tamales, fajitas, queso, ohhhh, the list could go on and on and on….
